Swim & Dive Announces Fall 2021 Slate

The Eagles begin the fall with a meet at Bowling Green, Oct. 30, inside Cooper Pool

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Head Swimming Coach Derek Perkins and Head Diving Coach Buck Smith announced the team's fall 2021 schedule today, Oct. 12.
The Eagles will begin regular-season competition, and Mid-American Conference play, at Bowling Green, Oct. 30, inside Cooper Pool.
EMU continues the conference slate with a meet versus the University of Akron, Nov. 6, at Saline High School in Saline, Mich. The following weekend, the Green and White travel to Rochester, Mich. to battle Oakland University, Nov. 12.
Eastern Michigan will conclude its fall schedule with a trip to Granville, Ohio to compete in the Denison Invitational, Dec. 2-4, at Denison University inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
Perkins begins his third season guiding the EMU swimmers while Smith enters his 22nd season in Ypsilanti leading the divers.
Last season, the Eagles placed sixth at the MAC Championships, April 17, hosted by EMU.
Individually, senior swimmers Ali Staver (Bettendorf, Iowa-Pleasant Valley) and Riley Hofmann (Ada, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) both notched season-best swims in the 200 butterfly preliminaries, with Staver making the championship final and earning sixth-place, 2:00.15, while Hofmann tabbed a spot in the consolation final with her 2:02.28 time, good for 11th in the field at the championships. The Bettendorf, Iowa native was also honored as a Second Team All-MAC selection.
On the diving boards, senior Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) swept both diving events (1-meter and 3-meter) at the MAC Championships. Berger also garnered First Team All-MAC honors and a NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships appearance. The senior was also selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last season.
Smith was honored as the 2020-21 MAC Co-Diving Coach of the Year. It was the 12th time the tenured coach earned the distinction.
Eastern Michigan University's swim and dive program garnered multiple awards in 2020-21, including the honor of CSCAA Scholar All-America Team and tabbing 14 student-athletes to the Academic All-MAC Team.
