YPSILANTI, Mich. – (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive programs begin its season 1-1 as the Eastern Classic was held as three separate dual meets between the three teams at Jones Natatorium Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10-11.

In the dual meet against Illinois State University, the Eagles won with a score of 244, compared to Illinois State's 126. In the dual meet against the University of Toledo, the Eagles were topped by the Rockets by one point, as the score was 184 to 185, respectively. Meanwhile, Toledo downed Illinois State, 246 to 142.

Eastern won seven total events between swimming and diving, along with sweeping two of the events.

How it Happened: Swim
The 400-yard individual medley saw Eastern fill all three podium spots, with freshman Shayne Patrick (Reno, Nev./TMCC), earning her first win as an Eagle with a time of 4:30.12. She was followed by sophomore Nehir Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/Cevre), who took second place in 4:30.82, and junior Morgan Hofmeister (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty), who swam a time of 4:38.62 to take third place.

Junior Nina Larosa (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay), took first place in the 100y breaststroke in 1:03.33. She was followed by junior Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast), who took third place in 1:05.75, and junior Tristen Mina (Santa Clara, Calif./The King's Academy), who swam a time of 1:05.92.

Both of Eastern's 800-yard freestyle relay teams claimed the top spots, as Oz, sophomore Azra Umut (Istanbul, Turkey/Fenerbahce School), freshman Marianna Fardella (Serres, Greece/40 Geniko Lykeio Serron), and junior Emma Littrell (Taylor Mill, Ky./St. Henry District), took first place in 7:36.64. The team of Hofmeister, Patrick, freshman Amelia Jones (Lexington, Ky./Paul Laurence Dunbar), and senior Ali Kudo (Guelph, Ont./John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute), came in second with a time of 7:44.05.

Oz secured a first place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 17:02.37. She was followed by Fardella, who took second place with a time of 17:16.25, and Hofmeister, who swam it in 17:32.39 to round out the scoring.

LaRosa earned her second win with a time of 2:20.91 in the 200-yard breaststroke, followed by Mina with a time of 2:23.65, and Hofmeister with a time of 2:29.33.

How it Happened: Dive
The Eagles kicked off day one of the meet with a sweep in the one-meter, as sophomore Aisling Gutierrez (New Kent, Va./New Kent), took first place with a score of 257.60. Next was senior Cate Migliori (Stockton, Calif./San Joaquin Delta College), in second place with a personal-best score of 231.75, followed by sophomore Taityn Speier (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson), in third place with 217.20 to round out the point scorers.

On day two, junior Marnie Howard (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community West), took first place in the three-meter with a score of 235.05, her first win as an Eagle. She was followed by Migliori, who earned second place with a score of 226.40, and Gutierrez, who rounded out the scoring with 205.50.

The Eagles saw a total of six personal bests set this weekend between swimming and diving.
