RALEIGH, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary) finished one-under-par for the tournament following a final-round 76 to finish tied for 19th and lead the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
Host NC State overcame a 10-stroke deficit after two rounds to win the event. The Wolfpack topped UNCG by 15 strokes in the third round to earn a five-stroke win.
UNCG's Nick Lyerly earned medalist honors with a two-stroke victory of East Carolina's AJ Bechtold.
Collins's best round came in the opening round as he shot a 69 and followed it up with a 70. In 12 rounds this fall, he averaged 73.17 strokes per round with a team-best six rounds of par-or-better.
Sophomore MJ Smith (Rockford, Ill.-Winnebago) tied for 38th with a 219 (70-71-78), while senior Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) was 43rd with a 220 (71-76-73).
Classmate Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park) added a 227 (76-72-79) for 74th and Max Watson (Ashland, Ohio-Ashland) finished 77th with a three round score of 229 (77-75-77)..
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's crew will take some time off before returning to the course next at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event in Dade City, Fla., Feb. 7-8.
