Volleyball Takes Three-Straight Sets in Win over Miami

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fought back after losing the first set to secure a 3-1 win (16-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18) against Miami University this afternoon, Oct. 15, inside the Convocation Center.
The conference victory improved Eastern Michigan's record to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Eagles were led by a double-double from sophomore Samantha Basham (Granville, Ohio-Newark Catholic), who registered 15 kills and 17 digs on the day. Redshirt freshman Krista Blakely (Detroit, Mich.-University High School Academy) also added a career-high 17 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, sophomore Kamryn Stilwell (Parma, Ohio-Padua Franciscan) chipped in for EMU with 24 digs to go with eight blocks from redshirt sophomore Raeven Chase (Toronto, Ontario-Michael Power St. Joseph Catholic).

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Eagles fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-16. Eastern Michigan trailed by as many as 10 points as Miami grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was tied up three times before the RedHawks took control.
SET 2 | Eastern Michigan responded to pick up a 25-22 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. Eastern Michigan opened up as much as a seven-point lead at 20-13 before finishing off the set, totaling 15 kills in the process.
SET 3 | Eastern Michigan went up 2-1 after defeating the RedHawks in set three. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure a 25-20 victory. Eastern Michigan opened up as much as an 11-point lead at 20-9 before closing out the set. The Eastern Michigan offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Eastern Michigan finished off the match with a 25-18 fourth-set victory, winning their third set in-a-row. The Eagles grabbed control of the set at 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way. Eastern Michigan led by as many as nine points at 24-15 before finishing off the stanza, collecting 18 kills along the way. Eastern Michigan also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
