Eastern will start its season at the Temple Triangular, Jan. 16

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team was selected to finish fifth, tying with Ball State, in the Mid-American Conference, as a part of the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced today, Jan. 14.

The voting was tight this year as only one point separates first through fourth, but Central Michigan was selected again to finish atop the MAC for the second consecutive season with 34 points. The Chippewas were followed closely by the defending champions from 2019, Northern Illinois, who received 33 points. Western Michigan came in third with 32 points and fourth was secured by Kent State receiving 31 points. Eastern and Ball State tied for fifth with 26 points. Bowling Green finished to seventh with 14 points. CMU was also selected as the favorites to win the MAC Championship.

There was no conference championship last year, as the 2020 season was cut short due to COVID-19. The Eagles closed the year with a 3-7 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the conference, but was ranked first in the MAC and 28th nationally on beam.

The Green and White will open their season at the Temple Triangular, taking on the Owls and the Lions of Towson  University Saturday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the action on ESPN+ or follow along with live results on EMUEagles.com.
