YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Former Eastern Michigan University men's basketball student-athlete Elijah Minnie (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Lincoln Park (Robert Morris)) signed a one-year professional contract with the Lugano Tigers based in Lugano, Switzerland.
Minnie transferred to Eastern prior to the 2016-17 season from Robert Morris, but sat out that season as a redshirt due to the NCAA Transfer guidelines. In his first season in the Green and White, Minnie established himself as one of the top forwards in the Mid-American Conference. The forward led the Eagles averaging 16.8 points per game, while also turning in 6.1 rebounds a contest in his debut season.
During his senior campaign, Minnie played in 30 games, making 27 starts for the Eagles. He was named to the Basketball Hall of Fame's Julius Irving Preseason Watchlist as one of the top 20 power forwards in college basketball and averaged 13.3 points per game. The All-MAC Honorable Mention selection posted a .326 three-point percentage (71-of-218), which ranked 12th in the conference.
The forward ended his EMU career with 989 points, which is good for 33rd in program history. Minnie posted 47 double-digit scoring performances and recorded four career double-doubles. The Pittsburgh, Pa.-product notched a .819 career free throw percentage (136-of-166), which is good for fourth in program history.
The club competes in the Swiss Basketball League (SBL), the highest domestic tier in Switzerland. The Lugano Tigers have won six SBL Championships, four Swiss Cups, and one League Cup.
