The old adage that championships are won in the spring will hold true for two student-athletes from the Eastern Michigan University football program, who will compete for a virtual championship Monday, April 6. Seniors Terry Myrick (Austell, Ga.-Woodward Academy) and Jalen Phelps (Powder Springs, Ga.-Hillgrove) will face off with members of the Fresno State University football team in a Madden 2020 Tournament on Twitch.

The first game gets underway at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT) with the second game to follow afterwards. Watch Link 1. Watch Link 2.

The two schools conducted an online tournament on PlayStation and Xbox to get to the school's representative in the tournament.

Myrick defeated Noski LaFleur (Charles, La.-LaGrange-Coffeyville C.C.) and Alex Merritt (Cincinnati, Ohio-Moeller) on the PlayStation bracket, while Phelps downed Aaron Hamilton (Alpharetta, Ga.-Johns Creek) and Korey Hernandez (Decatur, Ga.-Cedar Grove-Arkansas-Iowa Western C.C.) to claim the Xbox division title.

Fresno State's football team is led by former EMU Assistant Coach Kalen DeBoer, who is in his first year leading the program. DeBoer spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator at Eastern Michigan where he helped guide the Eagles to their first bowl bid since 1987 following a 7-5 regular season. It was EMU's first season above .500 since 1995.
