YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – An accomplished member of the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country and track and field teams, senior Abbigail Stemple (Mason, Ohio-William Mason) served as President of EMU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and Secretary of the Mid-American Conference Council of Student-Athletes (COSA) during the 2019-20 season.

During her junior year, Stemple was one of two MAC student-athletes selected to attend the 2019 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum. During that season, Stemple served as Vice President of Eastern Michigan's SAAC and was also appointed to represent her fellow student-athletes at COSA. Stemple's service on the SAAC Executive Board began as a sophomore in 2017-18.

Stemple began her collegiate career at the George Dales Invitational hosted by Western Michigan University, Sept. 2, 2016, placing 21st overall with a time of 20:26.9. In her first track and field campaign, Stemple earned a top-5 finish at the Jack Shaw Classic, March 30, 2017, ranking fifth in the 3,000-meter race in 11:08.68.

Stemple achieved a pair of personal-bests during her senior season, including a 6K time of 25:55.3 at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational, Oct. 21, 2019. She also made her 800-meter debut at the SVSU Doug Hansen Open, Jan. 17, placing 14th with a time of 2:40.56.

Writing a letter to EMU and track and field, Stemple said, "Dear Eastern Michigan, thank you for being my home these past four years. In the short time we spent together, you gave me so much! I walked onto campus my freshman year knowing exactly what I wanted to get out of my time with you – I wanted to be a 4-year student-athlete who graduated with a degree in education. Little did I know, you would give me so much more.

In just four short years, you gave me an unwavering support system, lifelong relationships, and the desire to never give up on the things I loved. You instilled within me confidence, invaluable leadership skills, and a purpose. You gave me opportunities that freshman me never would have imagined. Thank you Eastern Michigan for preparing me to take on the real world and for being my home these past four years. Love, Abbi."

Stemple will be graduating with a degree in elementary education.
