The Eagles battle Oakland, March 6, at the Chippewa Club

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After 15 consecutive matches on the road, the Eastern Michigan University tennis team will kick off its 2020 home slate with a match against Southeast Michigan-foe, Oakland University, Friday, March 6. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. inside Ypsilanti's Chippewa Club, the new permanent home venue for the EMU tennis team.

Eastern (9-6) comes into the match on a season-best four match win streak. The Green and White finished its 11-match spring break spectacular with consecutive wins over Morgan State, Feb. 25, Saint Francis and Niagra, Feb. 29, and Youngstown State, March. 1. Meanwhile, Oakland (5-4) has notched a positive ledger in the early-going of their season. The Golden Grizzlies have wins over two Mid-American Conference members, the University of Akron, and the University of Toledo, thus far.

EMU is led in singles by senior Marie Mayerova (Kremlin, Czech Republic) and junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Algappa Marticulation School)¸who each pace the team with 10 singles wins on the young campaign.

Ganesan and freshman Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) have teamed-up to become one of the best doubles pairings in the conference as well. The duo holds a team-best 8-5 record and has recorded victories in six of their last seven appearances on court.

Newcomer Emma-Lou Pommiers (Aire Sur I'adour, France-Saint Dominique Pau) has quickly made a name for herself as the No. 4 singles player for Head Coach Jayson Wiseman's squad. The French freshman has already notched 10 singles victories.

A victory on Friday would give EMU back-to-back 10 win seasons. EMU did not play a season ago, but did participate in the 2017-18 season. If the Eagles are able to secure a 10th team victory, it would be the first time that EMU has recorded consecutive 10+ win seasons since the 2005-06, 2006-07 campaigns.
