The Eagles battled to secure a 5-2 victory
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team continued its hot streak as the Eagles cruised to a Sunday afternoon victory over Youngstown State University, 5-2, today, March. 1.
The win is the fourth in-a-row for Eastern (9-6), and the fifth in its last six outings.
On the singles side, it was junior Vasavi Ganesan (Tamil Nadu, India-Algappa Marticulation School) that led the way for the Green and White. She earned her second straight victory at the No. 2 spot, defeating the Penguins' Imaan Hassim (7-6, 7-5). Freshman Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) and sophomore Julia Piatek (Melgiew, Poland-Liceum Lublin) also picked up singles wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots, respectively. EMU earned a win at No. 6 singles, by default.
In doubles, EMU needed to complete just one match to earn the overall victory. After winning at the No. 3 slate, by default, it was the pairing of Ganesan and Popma that brought it home for EMU. They needed just six games to finish of the Guins in a zero-loss match, and secure the 5-2 team win for Eastern.
Eastern returns to action Friday, March 6, for its first home match of the season. The Eagles will host Oakland University at Ypsilanti's Chippewa Club, the new home facility for Eastern Michigan.
