Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success in competition
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week.
Owen Day
Eastern Michigan junior Owen Day won both events in which he competed at the 2020 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, Feb 28-29 inside the Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio. The Ottawa, Ontario native defended his title in the mile run with a time of 4:06.86, before winning the 800-meter crown as he crossed the finish line in 1:51.38. For his efforts, Day earned First-Team All-MAC honors for the second consecutive indoor campaign after helping the Eagles earn the runner-up spot at the conference meet with a team score of 142 points.
Alysse Wade
Eastern Michigan sophomore Alysse Wade earned First-Team All-MAC honors as the Eagles won the 2020 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a team score of 104 points, Feb. 28-29 inside Stile Athletics Field House in Akron, Ohio. The Mansfield, Ohio native finished in first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.43 seconds, defeating competitors from Buffalo and Northern Illinois by .01 and .03 ticks, respectively to help the Eagles win their conference-record seventh indoor title. For perspective, Wade was 15th in the preliminary round in this event at last season's conference meet with a time of 8.86 seconds.
