Men's Track and Field Set for Meyo Invitational

The Eagles travel to Notre Dame this weekend to take part in two-day meet

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team heads to the University of Notre Dame to compete in the Meyo Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8 inside the Loftus Sports Center.

The Eagles earned multiple podium places at last season's meet, Feb. 1-2, 2019. Current junior Owen Day (Ottawa, Ontario-International School of Dusseldorf) posted EMU's best finish of the weekend as he ranked second in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:01.25. Former Eagle Tyler Underwood claimed third place in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best mark of 46.85, while current junior Owen Richardson (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School) was fourth at 47.21. In the field events,then-senior Nick Herbert (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern) finished third in the triple jump with a career-best of 15.09 meters, redshirt senior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) was third in the weight throw with a mark of 19.37 meters, and junior Skyler Lester (Marietta, Ga.-Marietta) finished in a tie for third in the long jump at 2.05 meters.

The Eagles resume their indoor campaign after winning a half-dozen event titles at the Jack Skoog Open, Jan. 31. Sophomore Alec Frymier (Hilliard, Ohio-Hilliard Bradley) set EMU's fastest time of the season in the 60-meter dash as he claimed first prize with a mark of 6.91 seconds. He was also the program's lone entry in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in fourth place with a time of 8.29.

Meanwhile, freshman Frankie Grey (Brentwood, N.Y.-Brentwood) clinched the 400-meter title with a time of 50.23 seconds, before fellow freshman Trent Barron (Flint, Mich.-Carman-Ainsworth) finished as the runner-up with a personal-best mark of 50.33. EMU also secured each of the top three positions in the 800-meter run, as enior Roderic Wilson (Atlanta, Ga.-Blanche Ely) won the event with a time of 1:55.90, while junior Derek Jones (Erie, Pa.-Cathedral Preparatory) and sophomore Ronald Brandal (Huron, Ohio-Huron) placed second and third place with marks of 1:55.95 and 1:57.41, respectively. For his part, Wilson anchored the 4x400-meter relay team that finished in first place with a time of. Additionally, redshirt junior Austin Wicker (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) took home the 3000-meter title as he crossed the finish line in 9:01.17.

In the field events, redshirt junior Baboucar Sallah-Mohammed (Arlington, Va.-Fishburne Academy) won the triple jump for the third time in as many tries this season with a mark of 15.03 meters. The Eagles also shined in the weight throw, as redshirt senior Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla.-Edmond Memorial) finished second overall with a personal-best heave of 20.42 meters, freshman Kappa Bedoui (Doha, Qatar-Aspire Academy) finished in third place at 20.40, and redshirt senior Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio-Huron) also eclipsed the 20-meter mark as he placed fourth with a career-best throw of 20.26.

Field events are scheduled to get underway Friday at 4 p.m., while running events will begin at 4:30 p.m. The meet will resume Saturday morning with running events starting at 9:45 a.m., while field events are expected to resume at 10:30 a.m.
