Eagles Post Strong Showing on Day 2 of the Ohio State Winter Invitational

The Green and White recorded at least one season-best effort in each event
COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team built upon Friday's success on the second day of the Ohio State Winter Invitational, seeing five Eagles improve their times in both the preliminaries and finals at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, Feb. 15.
Starting in the 100 yard butterfly, sophomore Anna Stephan (San Diego, Calif.-Scripps Ranch) and freshman Kayla Whitehead (Ottawa, Ontario-Colonel By Secondary) made continuous improvements to their marks in the preliminary and final rounds. Stephan posted a 58.56 mark in the prelims, and followed up with a season-best 58.20 time in the finals. Similarly, Whitehead finished the prelims in 57.28 and marked 56.80 for a season-best in the finals.
Coming off a similar performance trend in the 200 yard individual medley, freshman Kelsi Hill (Indian Trail, N.C.-Union Academy) demolished her previous personal standard in the 400 yard individual medley. Starting with a 4:42.44 prelims showing, she improved to 4:41.14 in the finals, besting her previous season-best by over two seconds.
Sophomore Amelia Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter) and senior Sydney Thomas (Jamestown, N.Y.-Southwestern Senior) rounded out the continuous improvements for the day, this time in the 100 backstroke. Kinnard began the day with a 59.45 time in the prelims, and finished with a season-best 59.39 in the finals. Thomas' prelims swim clocked in at 56.46, and that time improved to 56.35 in the finals.
Eastern Michigan wraps up the Ohio State Winter Invitational tomorrow, Feb. 16, beginning at 11 a.m. The meet will be live streamed on BTN+, and live results will be available through MeetMobile.
