Three Eagles posted top-10 finishes in the finals of their respective events
COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team concluded the Ohio State Winter Invitational today, Feb. 16, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion with three new personal-best times and three top-10 performances in the finals.
Leading the way for Eastern were freshmen Kayla Whitehead (Ottawa, Ontario-Colonel By Secondary) and Abigail Wenger (Upper Sandusky, Ohio-Upper Sandusky), who finished seventh and eighth in the finals of the 200 yard breaststroke, respectively. Both swimmers also picked up season-best marks, with Whitehead recording a 2:25.80 time and Wenger at 2:28.50.
Also picking up a top-10 finals result for the Green and White was sophomore Anna Stephan (San Diego, Calif.-Scripps Ranch), who's 2:13.71 mark in the 200 yard butterfly was good for 10th place.
Senior Sydney Thomas (Jamestown, N.Y.-Southwestern Senior) rounded out the strong showings from the Eagles on the day, picking up a 2:00.65 time in the 200 yard backstroke to set a new personal standard.
Eastern Michigan will now shift its focus to the Mid-American Conference Championships, set to begin Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Buffalo, N.Y. at the University at Buffalo Alumni Arena Pool. For updates on the Eastern Michigan swimming and diving team, follow the team's twitter account, @EMUSwimDive.
