Five new season-best times were set on the first day
COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team completed the first day of the Ohio State Winter Invitational with five swimmers setting new season-best standards on the opening day.
Starting in preliminaries, freshman Morgan Booth (Fishers, Ind.-Fishers) and sophomore Anna Stephan (San Diego, Calif.-Scripps Ranch) bested their 500 yard freestyle marks by at least three seconds. Booth finished in 4:56.76, while Stephan clocked in at 5:06.59. Both would go on to rewrite their records just hours later, tapping the wall in 4:56.46 and 5:05.16, respectively, in the finals.
Freshman Kelsi Hill (Indian Trail, N.C.-Union Academy) followed suit, setting a new personal-standard in the 200 yard individual medley preliminaries in 2:10.89, then shaving over two seconds off her time for a 2:08.81 finish in the finals.
In the 50 yard freestyle preliminaries, freshman Carlin Hudson (Chattanooga, Tenn.-Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences) and senior Arianna Ortiz (Jupiter, Fla.-Jupiter) posted sub-25 second times en route to season-best marks of 24.42 and 24.57, respectively.
Day two of the Ohio State Winter Invitational begins at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Feb. 15 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The event will be streamed on BTN+, and live results will be available through MeetMobile.
