Baseball Picked Eighth in MAC Preseason Poll

The 72nd EMU baseball campaign begins Friday, Feb. 14
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University baseball team was selected to finish eighth-overall in the Mid-American Conference according to its annual preseason poll, released by the league office today, Feb. 12.
Central Michigan was selected as the preseason favorite to win the conference, receiving 109 points and three first-place votes. The Chippewas cruised to a 38-19 overall record in 2019, going 22-5 in conference play and winning the MAC Tournament. Kent State followed closely behind with 106 points and two first-place votes. Ball State (105 points, three first-place votes), Miami (93 points, two first-place votes), and Northern Illinois (68 points, one first-place vote) rounded out the top-five in the poll.
EMU finished eighth, just behind Ohio (67 points), and Western Michigan (57 points), after receiving 38 points in the poll. The Eagles finished the 2019 season ninth-overall with a 11-43-1 mark, including a 6-21 record in league play. Toledo (33 points), Bowling Green (30 points), and Akron (20 points) rounded out the poll in the No. 8 through No. 10 spots, respectively.
Kent State was picked as the favorite to win the annual MAC Tournament as it received six of the 11 possible nods in that category. Miami earned two votes while Ball State, CMU, and NIU, each received one vote.
The Eagles open the 2020 season on the road as they travel to Clarksville, Tenn. for a three-game series against Austin Peay State University. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, February 14. For the most up-to-date information on all things EMU baseball, visit EMUEagles.com
