EMU will play each MAC school twice in a 22-match schedule
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Volleyball Coach Darcy Dorton announced the regular-season schedule for the upcoming 2021 winter season, today, Dec. 17. This year's campaign was shortened due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and will be played mid-January through March.
The schedule structure will consist of two-match series only against Mid-American Conference opponents at one institution rather than the traditional home-and-home with travel weekends where teams would normally play two different opponents.
Eastern will open the 2021 winter season on the road at Kent State, Jan. 22-23, kicking off the 22-match schedule with back-to-back dates against 10 of 11 MAC programs. The Eagles will play a home-and-home series with in-state rival Central Michigan. EMU will travel to CMU on March 16, then host the Chippewas on March 23.
The Green and White will also host Ohio, Western Michigan, Buffalo, Toledo, and Ball State. On the road, EMU will face Kent State, Northern Illinois, Akron, Bowling Green, and Miami.
Divisional play for the conference will remain in effect with the league champion hosting the MAC Tournament. The top four teams will advance to the league tournament, rather than the typical eight teams.
Eastern finished the 2019 campaign with an 11-17 overall record with a 6-10 Mid-American Conference mark in Dorton's first year at the helm.
In accordance with Eastern Michigan University guidelines, the attendance policy for home EMU volleyball matches will be announced before the season begins. EMU continues to monitor the situations revolving around the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the season and will provide updates on any changes to the attendance policy that may be made via EMUEagles.com.
