YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University baseball team has announced that the sixth-annual Lead Off Dinner will take place Saturday, Feb. 8, beginning at 6 p.m. in the EMU Student Center Grand Ballroom. Check-in will commence at 5:30 p.m.

The event will help the EMU baseball team fund its spring trips, as well as other projects to help enhance the team's performance throughout the season. The Ron Oestrike Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to its newest recipient, Bill Tuscany, during the event. There will also be a keynote speech delivered by former MLB player and World Champion, Lance Parrish.

Parrish spent 18 years in the major league ranks as a player before moving into managerial and administrative roles. He was an eight-time All-Star, six-time Silver Slugger, and three-time Gold Glove award-winner. Parrish was an integral member of the world championship-winning 1984 Detroit Tigers team. A key offensive asset, he produced 33 home runs and 98 runs batted in during his Silver Slugger and Gold Glove-winning season. He currently serves as the special assistant to the general manager for the Detroit Tigers organization.

Known to generations of Eastern Michigan University student-athletes, coaches and staff, Tuscany, the former Associate Head Athletic Trainer at EMU, retired on March 28, 2018, after 32 years of service to the University. A 1973 EMU graduate, Tuscany was a constant fixture on the field, pool deck, track, and training room since the fall of 1986. During his time on campus, Tuscany has worked hand-in-hand with 105 Mid-American Conference Championship teams. He also worked with scores of Olympians, National Champions, and All-Americans as a part of his sports medicine responsibilities.

Individual tickets for the event start at $125, while kids 12 and under are just $25. There are also options to sponsor a student-athlete's meal for $35, as well as sponsoring a table, which includes four tickets and a special gift, for $1,000. Additionally, local businesses have the opportunity to become a program sponsor for $100.
