EMU Student-Athletes Post High Marks in the Classroom

Student-athletes at EMU scored a 3.201 GPA in the latest term
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University student-athletes had another strong semester in the classroom, finishing with the fourth-highest term GPA in school history at a 3.201. Overall, it was the 20th semester in-a-row EMU student-athletes earned over a 3.0 GPA, the EMU Student-Athlete Support Services office announced today, Jan. 16.
Additionally, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes was the department's fifth best tally at 3.258.
"These outstanding results in the classroom are a testament to the hard work put in by our student-athletes and our academic support staff," said EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "We are very grateful for the support our Eastern Michigan faculty provide our student-athletes on a daily basis. Our student-athletes are not only competing at a very high level athletically, but are excelling in the classroom. Our student-athletes' success in the classroom combined with the challenges of their athletics experience combine to provide a solid foundation for their future success after graduation."
Of the 454 student-athletes enrolled at EMU in the fall, 296 (65 percent) posted a 3.0-or-higher grade point average for the term. Furthermore, a total of 316 student-athletes (70 percent) hold a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
For the semester, women's gymnastics led all sports with a term GPA of 3.776 on EMU's 4.0 scale. Women's soccer (3.643) was next, while women's cross country (3.577) was third. Baseball (3.517) and women's swimming & diving (3.470) rounded out the top five programs for the fall semester.
A total of 14 EMU athletics programs finished the semester with cumulative GPAs better than 3.0.
Furthermore, there were 47 EMU student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs last semester, led by soccer which had 10.
