Berger Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

She becomes the first Eagle diver to win the award since 2013
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving student-athlete Bethany Berger (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday, Jan. 15.
The junior holds a 4.0 GPA studying exercise science, and becomes the first member of the diving squad to win the award for EMU since All-American diver Kelly Hendricks was named Scholar Athlete of the Week March 27, 2013.
Berger won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for Eastern Michigan Saturday, Jan. 11 at Wayne State. Setting new career-best scores in each event, she achieved scores of 291.22 in 1-meter and 305.85 in 3-meter to help lead the Eagles to their 193-49 win over the Warriors. Additionally, Berger met the NCAA Qualifying Standard in 3-meter diving and becomes the third Eagle diver to have met the qualifying standards in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving this season.
Eastern Michigan will travel to the University of Akron Saturday, Jan. 18 for its first MAC dual meet of the new year against the Zips. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at Ocasek Natatorium.
