YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics had a tremendous 2018-19 calendar year with its well documented success both on the field and in the classroom. The success has not gone unnoticed in the community with sizable growth recorded in charitable contributions to support EMU's 450+ student-athletes.
The 2019 fiscal year saw more than 1,000 donors contribute $2,400,000 in cash received – more than double the previous single-year fundraising record set in 2018.
"Donor support makes a world of difference for our student-athletes," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee. "The growth in our development area is indicative of years of relationship building and belief in the mission of Eastern Athletics. Thank you to each and every donor who contributed to this record-breaking year."
This past year saw the former Eagles Pride fundraising initiative rebranded to the Eastern Athletic Fund. The rebrand contributed to increases in capital project giving, crowdfunding and alumni/former student-athlete participation. Another highlight was the brick campaign in support of the Student-Athlete Performance Center, which reached a sellout of 450 bricks.
"We are grateful to our donors for continuing to grow support for Eastern student-athletes," added Dan McLean, EMU's Senior Associate AD for Development. "Our development team is excited for what is building and more opportunities to positively impact our young people."
