Head Coach Jayson Wiseman welcomes Isabelle Popma to EMU
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Head Tennis Coach Jayson Wiseman announced the signing of Isabelle Popma (Staphorst, Netherlands-Center for Sports and Education) to the EMU tennis team Tuesday, July 30.
"We are very excited to add Isabelle to the team and our EMU Athletics family," Wiseman said. "We believe that she is a very underrated prospect who is just beginning to scratch the surface of what she can be as a player."
About her on-court ability, Wiseman added, "Isabelle is a very explosive player with excellent touch-and-feel for the game."
Ranked as high as No. 56 nationally in singles and No. 75 nationally in doubles in the Netherlands, Popma has participated in competition as a member of the Dutch National Team and as an individual competitor.
A multi-sport athlete in prep school, Popma participated in soccer when not on the tennis courts, and is an avid crossfit athlete.
When asked why she chose to commit to Eastern Michigan, Popma cited the beauty of Eastern's campus, and the opportunity to grow both athletically and personally as key points of distinction between EMU and other schools that she was recruited by.
