FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior defensive back Brody Hoying (Coldwater, Ohio-Coldwater) has been named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, presented by Chick-fil-A Foundation®. Hoying is one of 91 players from college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) named to the list.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Hoying, a three-time Academic All-MAC selection and two-time All-MAC honoree, recorded the fifth-most tackles of any Eagle and 29th-most in the conference with 69 on the season. For his efforts, he earned Third-Team All-MAC recognition. Overall, Hoying's 8.5 tackles-for-loss ranked 10th in the league as EMU finished third nationally in fewest passing yards allowed at just 150.2 a contest.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) led all conferences with 14 players appearing on the 2019 watch list. Following the SEC is the Pacific 12 Conference with 12 players, the Atlantic Coast Conference with 10 and the Mountain West Conference with 10 players each and the Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA with nine players each. The Mid-American Conference, Big Ten Conference and Big 12 Conference submitted seven players for consideration, while the American Athletic Conference had four players named to the list. All FBS Conferences are represented on the list, as were Independent representatives Notre Dame and BYU with one nominee each.
Nominations for the Wuerffel Trophy are made by the respective universities' Sports Information Departments and will close on Oct. 15. A current list of nominees can be found at www.wuerffeltrophy.org beginning on Aug. 1. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 5 and finalists will be announced on Nov. 18.
The formal announcement of the 2019 recipient will be made at the National Football Foundation's festivities in New York City on Dec. 10. The presentation of the 2019 Wuerffel Trophy will occur at the 51st All Sports Association Awards Banquet on Feb. 14, 2020 in Fort Walton Beach.

The Wuerffel Trophy is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. Furthermore, the College Football 150th Anniversary celebration will be recognized at all divisions of the collegiate game during the 2019 season.
Fans can now order reserved non-chairback season tickets for just $90 ($18 per game). EMU faculty and staff can secure season tickets for $70 ($14 per game), while youth season tickets are just $50 ($10 per game). In addition, EMU continues to offer the Ultimate Fan Season Ticket Plan for $150 ($30 per game). The premiere plan includes a padded chairback seat and VIP parking in the Convocation Center lots.
