Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success in competition
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are senior Mitchell Sparks and sophomore sprinter Keypathwa Gibson.
Mitchell Sparks

Week's Achievements: Senior Mitchell Sparks (Willis, Texas-Carmel (Ind.)) was outstanding for Eastern Michigan in two games against Western Michigan, May 3-5. Providing relief in both appearances, the veteran hurler tossed 4.2 innings of near-perfect baseball, allowing no runs and just one hit in his efforts. During the week, opponents hit just .067 against the southpaw as he compiled a WHIP of 0.238 and a 0.00 ERA. Dominant in his efforts, Sparks commanded the zone, striking out two while walking none en route to his one-hit week.
Keypathwa Gibson

Week's Achievements: Eastern Michigan sophomore Keypathwa Gibson collected two top-five finishes to close out her regular season at the Len Paddock Open Friday, May 3. Gibson began her day with a fourth-place mark in the 100m, crossing the finish line in 11.99 and recording the 14th-fastest run by a MAC athlete in 2019. She then led the Eagles' efforts in the 200m, matching her career-best outdoor time of 24.46 to take home a bronze medal and earn her spot in the conference rankings. With her mark Friday, Gibson now holds the 13th-fastest league time in the 200m this season.
