12 Eagles Named to Academic All-MAC Team

This marks the fifth consecutive season 11-or-more Eagles were selected for the conference honor
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Twelve members of the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team were named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team for the 2019 outdoor season, the MAC office announced Friday, May 31.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
Receiving the honors for EMU were: seniors Rebekah Carr (Celina, Ohio-Celina), Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern (Georgia State)), Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Warren Mott (Wayne State)), and Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community), juniors Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West), Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), Catherine Mittiga (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams), and Gianna Salzbrunn (North Aurora, Ill.-Montini Catholic), and sophomores Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica Immaculate Conception), Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind-Homestead), Savanah Luthman (Minster, Ohio- Minster), and Graysen Simmons (Huber Heights, Ohio-Wayne).
Carr vaulted in six meets for the Eagles during the 2019 outdoor campaign. The sport management major finished eighth for the second straight season at the MAC Championships, May 9-11, vaulting to a height of 3.57m. She earned four top-10 finishes throughout the Eagles' outdoor scheduling, including a season-opening eighth-place finish at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational, March 22-23, clearing 3.40m.
Goff made her mark in her final season donning the Green and White, qualifying for the NCAA East Regionals, May 23-25, with her second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles of 13.60 at the MAC Championships, May 9-11. Working towards a Master's degree in integrated marketing communication, the White Lake, Mich. native totaled eight top-10 marks throughout the season, including collecting the 100 hurdles event title with a time of 13.74 at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6. She finished her career as an Eagle holding the tied-for-eighth-best 60-meter hurdles (8.50), seventh-best indoor long jump (6.02m), and tied-for-fifth-fastest 100 hurdles (13.60) marks in program history.
After sitting out the indoor season due to injury, Knoll came storming back onto the track in the outdoor campaign, racing in three meets for the Eagles. She earned an eighth-place finish in the 5000m during her final appearance at the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 9-11. She graduated in April with a degree in health administration.
One of the best to ever represent Eastern Michigan on the track, Meyers capped off her senior outdoor campaign with a 16th-place finish in the 5000m at the NCAA East Regional Championships, May 23-25, running to a time of 16:32.00. The Zionsville, Ind. native collected First Team All-MAC honors with her first-place finish in the 5000m at the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 9-11, recording a mark of 16:45.28. She concluded her career as an Eagle holding the 10th-best outdoor 800m mark (2:09.74), the seventh-fastest outdoor 1500m time (4:21.23), the third-best outdoor 5000m finish (16:08.63), the fourth-best indoor Mile (4:43.88), fifth-fastest indoor 3000m (9:19.23), and the third-best indoor 5000m mark (16:15.04) in program history.
A member of the school-record holding 4x100 relay squad, Mason wrote her name in the Eastern Michigan history books during the 2019 outdoor season, running a leg of the Eagles' 4x100-meter relay team that set the EMU record at the NCAA East Regionals, May 23-25, crossing the finish line in 44.65. She capped off her junior campaign with First Team All-MAC honors after the cohort's gold-medal run at the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 9-11. Individually, the junior placed sixth overall in the 100m at the conference meet with a career-best effort in the preliminary heats of 11.89.
Bourg competed as a javelin specialist in seven meets for the Eagles, earning her best finish of the season at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, clearing 39.59m to take home first place. She closed out the regular season with a third-place throw of 40.07m at the Len Paddock Open, May 3. The Shorewood, Ill. native is a sport management major with a 3.29 grade point average.
Mittiga competed in four meets as a long jumper for the Eagles, opening her junior campaign with a career-best fifth-place leap of 5.49m at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6. At the conference championships, she placed 17th in her specialty, recording a jump of 5.19m. The South Bend, Ind. native closed out the regular season with a ninth-place effort at the Len Paddock Open, May 3, clearing 5.36m.
A sport management major from North Aurora, Ill., Salzbrunn saw action in five meets for the Eagles as a multis athlete. At the MAC Championship, May 9-11, she finished ninth in the heptathlon competition with a total of 4286 points. At the same meet, Salzbrunn placed 10th in the javelin throw with a mark of 38.48m. During her third campaign in the Green and White, she recorded her career-best shot put throw at the Len Paddock Open, May 3, clearing 9.75m to place 17th.
Clarke closed out her sophomore track and field season throwing the second-best outdoor shot put in program history at the conference championships, May 9-11, clearing 13.91m to round out the top-10 finishers. Earlier in the year, she recorded the fourth-furthest hammer throw in EMU laurels at the Jesse Owens Classic, April 26-27, throwing to a distance of 50.80m, good for 14th place. The actuarial science major collected five top-10 marks throughout the season, collecting her top finish at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, placing third in the hammer throw with a heave of 50.68m.
A Fort Wayne, Ind. native, Distelrath ran the distance events in five meets for the Green and White, including the MAC Championships, May 9-11, where she finished in the top-20 runners of the 1500m with a time of 4:58.38. The exercise science major earned her top individual finish of the season at the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays, April 25-27, placing 13th in the 5000m with a time of 17:47.35.
Luthman competed in four meets for the Eagles as a throws specialist, finishing her sophomore campaign with her best hammer throw of the season at the Len Paddock Open, May 3, clearing 41.57m for 12th place. She began the outdoor season with two top-25 finishes at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, clearing 34.51m in the discus throw for 16th overall and recording a heave of 39.63m in the hammer throw to place 22nd.
Simmons vaulted in five meets for EMU, clearing a season-best 3.12m at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, placing 16th overall. The Huber Heights, Ohio native is a media studies and journalism major with a 3.75 grade point average.

Carr vaulted in six meets for the Eagles during the 2019 outdoor campaign. The sport management major finished eighth for the second straight season at the MAC Championships, May 9-11, vaulting to a height of 3.57m. She earned four top-10 finishes throughout the Eagles' outdoor scheduling, including a season-opening eighth-place finish at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational, March 22-23, clearing 3.40m.
Goff made her mark in her final season donning the Green and White, qualifying for the NCAA East Regionals, May 23-25, with her second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles of 13.60 at the MAC Championships, May 9-11. Working towards a Master's degree in integrated marketing communication, the White Lake, Mich. native totaled eight top-10 marks throughout the season, including collecting the 100 hurdles event title with a time of 13.74 at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6. She finished her career as an Eagle holding the tied-for-eighth-best 60-meter hurdles (8.50), seventh-best indoor long jump (6.02m), and tied-for-fifth-fastest 100 hurdles (13.60) marks in program history.
After sitting out the indoor season due to injury, Knoll came storming back onto the track in the outdoor campaign, racing in three meets for the Eagles. She earned an eighth-place finish in the 5000m during her final appearance at the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 9-11. She graduated in April with a degree in health administration.
One of the best to ever represent Eastern Michigan on the track, Meyers capped off her senior outdoor campaign with a 16th-place finish in the 5000m at the NCAA East Regional Championships, May 23-25, running to a time of 16:32.00. The Zionsville, Ind. native collected First Team All-MAC honors with her first-place finish in the 5000m at the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 9-11, recording a mark of 16:45.28. She concluded her career as an Eagle holding the 10th-best outdoor 800m mark (2:09.74), the seventh-fastest outdoor 1500m time (4:21.23), the third-best outdoor 5000m finish (16:08.63), the fourth-best indoor Mile (4:43.88), fifth-fastest indoor 3000m (9:19.23), and the third-best indoor 5000m mark (16:15.04) in program history.
A member of the school-record holding 4x100 relay squad, Mason wrote her name in the Eastern Michigan history books during the 2019 outdoor season, running a leg of the Eagles' 4x100-meter relay team that set the EMU record at the NCAA East Regionals, May 23-25, crossing the finish line in 44.65. She capped off her junior campaign with First Team All-MAC honors after the cohort's gold-medal run at the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 9-11. Individually, the junior placed sixth overall in the 100m at the conference meet with a career-best effort in the preliminary heats of 11.89.
Bourg competed as a javelin specialist in seven meets for the Eagles, earning her best finish of the season at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, clearing 39.59m to take home first place. She closed out the regular season with a third-place throw of 40.07m at the Len Paddock Open, May 3. The Shorewood, Ill. native is a sport management major with a 3.29 grade point average.
Mittiga competed in four meets as a long jumper for the Eagles, opening her junior campaign with a career-best fifth-place leap of 5.49m at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6. At the conference championships, she placed 17th in her specialty, recording a jump of 5.19m. The South Bend, Ind. native closed out the regular season with a ninth-place effort at the Len Paddock Open, May 3, clearing 5.36m.
A sport management major from North Aurora, Ill., Salzbrunn saw action in five meets for the Eagles as a multis athlete. At the MAC Championship, May 9-11, she finished ninth in the heptathlon competition with a total of 4286 points. At the same meet, Salzbrunn placed 10th in the javelin throw with a mark of 38.48m. During her third campaign in the Green and White, she recorded her career-best shot put throw at the Len Paddock Open, May 3, clearing 9.75m to place 17th.
Clarke closed out her sophomore track and field season throwing the second-best outdoor shot put in program history at the conference championships, May 9-11, clearing 13.91m to round out the top-10 finishers. Earlier in the year, she recorded the fourth-furthest hammer throw in EMU laurels at the Jesse Owens Classic, April 26-27, throwing to a distance of 50.80m, good for 14th place. The actuarial science major collected five top-10 marks throughout the season, collecting her top finish at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, placing third in the hammer throw with a heave of 50.68m.
A Fort Wayne, Ind. native, Distelrath ran the distance events in five meets for the Green and White, including the MAC Championships, May 9-11, where she finished in the top-20 runners of the 1500m with a time of 4:58.38. The exercise science major earned her top individual finish of the season at the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays, April 25-27, placing 13th in the 5000m with a time of 17:47.35.
Luthman competed in four meets for the Eagles as a throws specialist, finishing her sophomore campaign with her best hammer throw of the season at the Len Paddock Open, May 3, clearing 41.57m for 12th place. She began the outdoor season with two top-25 finishes at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, clearing 34.51m in the discus throw for 16th overall and recording a heave of 39.63m in the hammer throw to place 22nd.
Simmons vaulted in five meets for EMU, clearing a season-best 3.12m at the Spartan Invitational, April 5-6, placing 16th overall. The Huber Heights, Ohio native is a media studies and journalism major with a 3.75 grade point average.
