The MAC honored 24 student-athletes inside the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University's Beau Breault (Hartland, Mich.-Hartland) and Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) were presented the Medal of Excellence Award as part of the Mid-American Conference Spring Meetings. In total, 24 MAC student-athletes were honored Wednesday, May 29, during the Honors Dinner Ceremony at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.

The Medal of Excellence is an award presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each of the 12 conference member institutions. To be honored with the Medal of Excellence Award, student-athletes had to participate on the varsity level in a conference-sponsored sport and have shown evidence of academic success with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA), exhibited athletic excellence, leadership, and service.  Selection of the recipients was made by each MAC institution.

"The Medal of Excellence Award is a reinforcement of the core values that we as a conference and each of our member institutions all possess with excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, and service," said MAC Commissioner Jon A. Steinbrecher. "We congratulate all of our Medal of Excellence Award winners."

The 2019 MAC Men's Golfer of the Year, Breault became just the third Eagle to capture the honor since it began in 1994 with a stellar senior season. 

The Hartland, Mich. native had five top-10 showings in 2018-19 with a MAC-leading average of 71.76. His 18-hole average ranks as the best single season mark in EMU history with 2,081 strokes in 29 rounds played. Named MAC Co-Golfer of the Week for the period ending March 22, Breault was the first EMU golfer since 2017 to earn MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honors when he collected the award on March 15 after placing 10th at the at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. Breault closed out his career with a sixth-place finish at the MAC Championships, while also garnering First Team All-MAC honors.

One of the most successful swimmers to ever don the Green and White, Duncan leaves behind a legacy unlike any swimmer before her. 

She owns the program, MAC, and MAC Championship meet records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. A four-time MAC 100 Breast champion, Duncan also won the 200 Breast in her junior and senior seasons. A five-time MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honoree, Duncan is a two-time First Team All-American as well as a two-time All-American Honorable Mention. As a senior, the Galesburg, Ill. product became the first four-time NCAA qualifier in program history in addition to being named the MAC's Outstanding Swimmer of the Year  and the conference's most outstanding senior. A four-time First Team All-MAC selection, Duncan closed out her career with a runner-up finish in the 100 Breast at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish in program history.
