Mason, Ganther, Johnston, and Harris raced to a time of 44.65, .34 seconds faster than the previous school record
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - Senior captain Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) and juniors Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), and Kolby Ganther (Park City, Kan.-Northeast Magnet) of the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field broke the EMU 4x100-meter relay record Saturday, May 25 at the NCAA East Regional Championships hosted by the University of North Florida.
The quartet ran to a time of 44.65, more than .39 seconds faster than the squad's previous season-best effort and topped the then-EMU program record of 44.99 by .34 seconds. In a talented field of competitors, the Eagles finished 17th in the semifinal heats, topping cohorts from Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, and the University of Virginia with their efforts.
Senior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville) competed in the 5000m semifinal heats, finishing 16th overall with a time of 16:32.00.
When asked about the Eagles' efforts throughout the east regionals, Head Coach Sue Parks noted that she was "proud of the athletes who competed over the last three days. This is an incredibly tough meet and I feel that we represented Eastern well. The seniors who are leaving us have had an incredible impact on our program. Those who are returning have learned from this meet and will use that experience for the future. It has been a strong year for us but we will be working hard to see what we can improve on for next year."
Today's efforts concluded the 2019 outdoor season for the Eagles, and completed the Eastern Michigan careers of Harris and Meyers. To keep up-to-date with all things Eastern Michigan Women's Track and Field, follow the team on twitter @EMUWXC_TF.
