Nuccitelli is the 10th member of the Eagles' 2019-2020 incoming class
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Head Rowing Coach Kemp Savage announced the signing of Lauren Nuccitelli (Port Colborne, Ontario-E. L. Crossley) to the Eagles' 2019-2020 rowing squad Wednesday, May 22.
Nuccitelli joins Rose Andrews (Rochester, Ill.-Rochester), Theresa McKelvey (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Huron), Ariel Sutton (Indianapolis, Ind.-Scecina Memorial), Chloe Hinojosa (Kewanee, Ill.-Kewanee), Gena Remsing (Vermontville, Mich.-Maple Valley), Kaia Knox (Carmel, Indiana-Carmel), Alexis Kettler (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton), Lena McCaslin (Hendersonville, Tenn.-Pope John Paul II), Claire McCurley (Harrison, Ohio-William Henry Harrison), and Emma Boersen (West Olive, Mich.-Grand Haven) as the newest addition to the Green and White for the 2019-2020 campaign.
"I am happy to add Lauren to the 2019-2020 team," noted Savage. "She, like most of our recruits this year, brings a depth of racing experience to the team. She is a self-driven athlete and her work ethic is going to be a huge part of the next step in EMU rowing's future."
Nuccitelli joins the Eagles after a four-year career as a member of the E. L. Crossley Secondary School's rowing team in Pelham, Ontario. A four-time letterwinner, Nuccitelli was a member of the Cyclones' boat that was the first crew in program history to race and win the new 59kg Senior Women's Quad at the Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association Championship. Her high school accolades include winning three Canadian National Championships, three Stotesbury Cup Regatta championships, and four bronze-medal finishes at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Outside of her time rowing for the Cyclones, the Port Colborne, Ontario product earned a top-10 finish in the women's doubles event at the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta as well as a third-place finish at the U.S. Club Nationals.
When asked why she decided to become an Eagle, Nuccitelli noted that she "chose EMU because of the athletic and academic opportunities the school has to offer. Walking onto campus felt like home and I knew this is where I wanted to be. Eastern Michigan not only has the undergraduate program I am interested in but has a competitive rowing program that suits me. The minute I met the coaches and team I instantly felt welcomed and can not wait to continue my athletic career in this positive environment."
The Green and White finished its 2019 campaign at the CAA Championships Sunday, May 19. The Eagles matched the program's best finish by placing third overall in the team competition, highlighted by a second-place finish in the Second Varsity Eight.
