Swartz To Compete in USA Swimming's Open Water National Championships

Former Eagle Nicole Swartz will compete in the Women's 5K National Championships Sunday, May 5
MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - Former Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team member Nicole Swartz has been selected to participate in the USA Swimming's Open Water National Championships, Friday through Sunday, May 3-5.
The Open Water National Championships is a two-day competition that includes six events: the Men's/Women's 10K National Championships, the Men's/Women's 5k Junior National Championships, and the Men's/ Women's 5K National Championship. The National Championships will also serve as the selection event for spots on the 2019-2020 U.S. National Team rosters.
Swartz is one-of-38 swimmers to compete in the 5K National Championships Sunday, May 5, scheduled to begin at 7:35 a.m. She will act as the lone representative from the state of Michigan.
Swartz completed her career in the Green and White with a third consecutive Mid-American Conference title in the 1650 Freestyle, while also finishing second in the conference's 500 Free competition to earn First Team All-MAC honors. No stranger to distance swims, Swartz led the Eagles' distance swimming crew throughout the 2018-19 season, recording a combined six event titles in the 500 and 1650 Free. She finished her time as an Eagle owning the school record in the 500 Free (4:43.84) and the second-best 1650 Free time (16:15.17).
