Eagles Close Out Regular Season at Len Paddock Open

EMU heads to compete at the University of Michigan Friday, May 3
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team looks to close its regular outdoor season out on a high note, competing at the Len Paddock Open hosted by the University of Michigan Friday, May 3.
The Green and White comes off a strong weekend at both the Hillsdale "GINA" Relays, hosted by Hillsdale College, and the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by the Ohio State University, Thursday through Saturday, April 25-27. Thursday saw freshmen Kaitlyn St. Bernard (Newport, Mich.-Jefferson) and redshirt senior Allie Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Warren Mott) finished in the top-10 of the 5000m event at the "GINA" Relays, placing third and 10th with career-best efforts of 17:30.09 and 17:34.87, respectively. In Columbus, Ohio, senior captain Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) and sophomore Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica- Immaculate Conception) highlighted the first day of competition at the Jesse Owens Classic, as Meyers finished third in the 1500m, recording a time of 4:28.88, while Clarke marked a 14th-place hammer throw effort of 50.80m, her career best and the fourth-best throw in EMU laurels.
Eastern Michigan finished its time at the classic Saturday, April 27, collecting two event titles in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. The 4x100 relay team of juniors Kolby Ganther (Park City, Kan.-Northeast Magnet), Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), and Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geauga), and senior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) recorded the fifth-fastest effort in EMU history, while the 4x400 relay squad of freshmen Tiffany Cernej-Garcia (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Pioneer) and Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England-The Costello School), sophomore Keypathwa Gibson (Toledo, Ohio-Roy C. Start) and Johnston topped Mid-American Conference foes Western Michigan University, Ohio University, the University of Akron, and Miami University en route to its top finish.
The Len Paddock Open is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's and women's javelin throw, while the running events will kick off at noon with the 3000m steeplechase.
