The sophomore left-hander is the first Eagle to earn the honor since 2017
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - After a stellar performance on Friday, April 5, sophomore Scott Granzotto (Northville, Mich.-Gabriel Richard) of the Eastern Michigan University baseball team was named the Mid-American Conference's Co-Pitcher of the Week, for the period ending April 7, the league office announced Monday, April 8. Granzotto shares the honor with Ball State University's Chayce McDermott.
With the announcement, Granzotto wins the award for the first time in his career and becomes the first Eagle to win the MAC Pitcher of the Week award since Brett Mattson did so, May 4, 2017.
Granzotto delivered a dominant performance, leading Eastern in its series-opening win over Bowling Green State University, April 5, in Ypsilanti. The sophomore lefty tossed a complete game, allowing just one run, six hits, and one walk, while striking out a career high eight Falcon hitters in his effort. Granzotto's wire-to-wire performance is the first complete game performance for Eastern since the 2017 season when Davis Feldman went this distance in a 9-1 victory over Central Michigan University in the MAC Tournament in Avon, Ohio, May 27.
Granzotto, dialed in from the start, became increasingly dominant throughout the contest, blanking BGSU in their final five frames, and delivering his three hardest pitches in his last three of the game. With the win, Granzotto picked up his team-leading third win of the 2019 season.
Granzotto and the Eagles return to the diamond Wednesday, April 10, where they will play a single game against Oakland University, at Oakland Baseball Field in Rochester, Mich. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. Following the midweek game with Oakland, Eastern travels to Muncie, Ind. where it will play a three-game weekend series against Ball State University.
