Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success in competition
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are senior distance runner Sydney Meyers and sophomore men's golfer Ty Celone.
Sydney Meyers

Week's Achievements: Eastern Michigan senior captain Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community) had a record-setting weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational, April 18-19. On Thursday, April 18, Meyers captured a 14th-place effort in Heat 1 of the 5000m, recording a time of 16:08.63. The Zionsville, Ind. native's efforts bested her own top performance by almost six seconds, as she continues to hold the third-best 5000m run in program history. Additionally, Meyers' performance is currently the second-best run in the MAC and the 26th-best performance seen in the nation this season.

Week's Achievements: Eastern Michigan University sophomore Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic) returned to his string of solid play Sunday, April 21, as he carded a three-round 212 to finish in a tie for 22nd-place at the Hawkeye Invitational on the par-71, 6,884-yard Finkbine Golf Course.
For Celone, it was his seventh top-25 showing of the year and the ninth of his career, as he pieced together rounds of 66, 75, and 71 for the top spot among EMU golfers. Celone's first round of 66 was tied for the 11th-lowest single round in EMU history, while it was the 16th round of 66 ever fired by an EMU student-athlete. Overall, it was the lowest 18-hole mark by an Eagle since Tyler Lewis notched a 64 (-8) at the Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 26, 2018.

Friday April 19 saw the EMU captain finish 27th overall with a time of 4:21.59 in the 1500m, just .36 seconds off her career-best effort. Her time is the third-best run by a Mid-American Conference athlete in the 2019 outdoor season.
