Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success in competition

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are junior baseball player Zachary Owings and senior men's track and field athlete Tyler Underwood.

Week's Achievements: Junior Zachary Owings (Saline, Mich.-Saline) had a week to remember, leading  the Eastern Michigan University baseball team in its two wins over the University of Northwestern Ohio (March 26) and Concordia University (Mich.) (March 27), respectively, before putting together a strong three games at Miami, March 29-31. During the five-game stretch, Owings compiled a .500 batting average, going 11-for-22 at the plate with four extra-base hits, and eight RBIs. In his best performance of the week, against Concordia, Owings blasted his first career grand slam, as part of a 3-for-4 hitting performance. In addition to his 11 hits, Owings tallied 18 total bases and zero strikeouts during the week. Owings currently ranks inside the Mid-American Conference's top-10 in six offensive categories, including hits, triples, and home runs, RBI, at-bats, and slugging percentage.

Week's Achievements: Senior Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich.-Clinton) saw success in his performances at the Raleigh Relays, recording two career-best efforts in his two-day stint in North Carolina, March 29-30. Underwood ran the 400m in just 46 seconds, the fourth-fastest effort by an Eastern Michigan trackster in program history and the top time ran by a conference athlete this season, while also ranking as the sixth-best effort by an NCAA athlete in the 2018-19 campaign. Underwood also captured a seventh-place finish in the 200m, running the conference's best 200m time this season, crossing the finish line in just 21.40. Additionally, Underwood ran a leg of the Eagles' runner-up finish 4x100m Relay, aiding the Green and White to still hold the top time run in the MAC this season in the event.
