The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team concluded its time at the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University Saturday, March 23.

The Eagles' top finish of the day came from junior Kristine Bourg (Shorewood, Ill.-Joliet West), who made her 2019 Outdoor Track and Field debut with a Javelin Throw effort of 39.47m, good for sixth place. The Shorewood, Ill. native's throw is the second-best effort by a Mid-American Conference athlete in the 2019 campaign.

Freshman Mair Edwards (Basingstoke, England- The Costello School) continued her success from yesterday's competitions with the Eagles' top finish of the day, placing seventh overall in the 400m with a time of 56.47. Her performance not only marked a career-best outdoor time in the event, but bested tracksters from MAC-foes Ball State University and Central Michigan University. Additionally, her performance was the top finish by a freshman in the event and ranks as the third-best effort by a conference athlete this season.

In other field event efforts, senior captain Rebekah Carr (Celina, Ohio-Celina) also earned a top-10 finish, placing eighth in the pole vault competition with a clearance of 3.40m.

On the track, redshirt senior Tifani Byrd (Toms River, N.J.-Toms River North) recorded her career-best 100m Saturday with a time of 12.76, good for 36th overall. The Toms River, N.J native also competed in the 100-meter Hurdles but was unable to finish the course.

The 800m saw two Eastern Michigan runners earn top-40 finishes, as senior Jocelyn Sharpe (Westerville, Ohio-Westerville North) and sophomore Madison Distelrath (Fort Wayne, Ind.- Homestead) placed 24th and 35th, respectively. Sharpe crossed the finish line with a career-best outdoor performance of 2:19.11, while Distelrath earned a time of 2:22.00.
