FORT WORTH, Texas (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University baseball team concluded its weekend in Texas with a 12-1 setback in seven-innings at the hands of No. 20 TCU Sunday, March 17, giving the Horned Frogs the three-game sweep.

A defensive battle in the beginning, EMU (3-16-1) could not outmatch the TCU offense, as the Horned Frogs notched double digit hits for the third consecutive contest. In total, Eastern surrendered 12 runs on 12 hits in the Sunday finale. Falling behind, 2-0, in the second inning, the Eagles showed scoring potential, but were unable to capitalize, eventually accumulating a 12-0 deficit, before scoring its first run in the seventh inning.

The EMU defense showed positive improvement through the initial three innings, allowing just two runs on four hits. Getting the nod for Eastern was freshman Justin Meis (Pittsburgh, Pa.-Bethel Park). After allowing a run in each of the first two innings, Meis provided his best work during the third frame, where he shut down the TCU offense in order. In all, Meis tossed 3.2 innings for the Green and White, striking out three while only allowing one walk in his effort.

Offensively, the Green and White tallied its highest hit total of the weekend, as all nine starters notched a hit for the first time this season. Leading the way in EMU's 10-hit showing, junior Zachary Owings (Saline, Mich.-Saline) delivered two hits on the day, while providing Eastern's lone RBI of the contest, a one-run single in the seventh inning. In addition to adding a hit for EMU, sophomore Shane Easter (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Comstock) scored a run and  senior Cameron Cruz (Chandler, Ariz.-Hamilton (Mesa C.C) added Eastern's lone extra-base hit when he doubled in the fifth inning.

Despite hitting contributions from all nine of the game's starters, the Eagles were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving seven runners on base en route to the 12-1 defeat.

Eastern returns to the field Wednesday, March 20, when it travels to Indianapolis, for a single game against Butler University. First pitch is schedule for 4 p.m. in Indianapolis, Ind.
