Young Earns Second Place Finish at CSCAA National Invitational Championships

The junior's 100 Backstroke swim of 54.22 bested swimmers from Ohio State and Akron

CLELEVAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University junior swimmer Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South) ended her 2018-19 season's efforts with a podium finish in the 100 Backstroke competition at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) National Invitational Championship (NIC) hosted by Cleveland State University, March 15. The Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. native earned second place in the championship final with a time of 54.22.

Young earned a spot in the 'A' final with her preliminary heat swim of 53.94, tapping in fifth-overall in the qualifying heat. The evening heats saw Young top swimmers from the Big 10 Conference's Ohio State University as well the University of Akron's Lauren Cooper.

The Green and White now turn its attention to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships where Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) will represent Eastern Michigan for the fourth straight season, March 20-23, in Austin, Texas.
