DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – A secret Santa gift exchange turned into a Christmas Day to remember for sophomore wide receiver Hassan Beydoun (Dearborn, Mich.-Dearborn) Wednesday, Dec. 25.
Members of the EMU football drew names earlier in the month for a gift exchange that was scheduled to take place prior to the holiday lunch at the team hotel. For Beydoun, his gift was a wrapped box containing a letter from Head Coach Chris Creighton. Inside the letter was the message that due to his hard work and dedication to the program he had earned himself an official scholarship.
"It took me a minute to process it," said Beydoun. "I started reading it (the letter) and I see official scholarship right there and I just didn't know what happened. It's unreal. It means a lot to me."
Beydoun has 21 receptions for 236 yards and a touchdown in 12 games this season. He caught his first career touchdown in a victory over Central Connecticut State (Sept. 21). Beydoun also grabbed four balls for a career-best 70 yards in a win against rival Western Michigan (Oct. 26). He is averaging 11.2 yards per reception as a sophomore.
Beydoun first enrolled at EMU not planning to continue his football playing career. After seeing a walk-on opportunity that was posted online, he came for a tryout and was later invited to be a member of the team after that walk-on camp.
The Dearborn, Mich. Native was earlier this year nominated for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding football player who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field. Each nominee must have begun his first season of participation without financial aid of any kind from his university's athletic department.

Eastern Michigan finished its 2019 regular season with a 6-6 record and will play in consecutive bowl games for the first time in the 128-year history of the program when it battles Pitt at the Quick Lane Bowl tomorrow, Dec. 26, in Detroit.

You can enjoy food, beverages, beer and wine, and more inside the Comerica Gridiron Club. Event registration and a game ticket is required for club access. Open from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the pre-game party is a fun way to celebrate game day leading up to the Quick Lane Bowl. GameAbove is the official sponsor of the EMU Pre-Game Party, for more information, visit GameAbove.com. Early bird pricing is $35 per person and will go up to $40 on game day.
Eastern is officially the home team for the 2019 Quick Lane Bowl, which means the EMU Department of Athletics, students, fans, alumni, and supporters have the opportunity to bring traditions from "The Factory," inside Rynearson Stadium, to Ford Field. Eastern's "Eagle Walk," gives fans the opportunity to greet the team and coaches as they arrive at the stadium. That event will take place at 5:15 p.m. outside Gate A at Ford Field (Adams Street), Dec. 26. Of course, no home game would be complete without the pregame band performance, the live bald eagle, as well as the team's famous taking to the field, which includes the demolition of a cinder block wall.
