DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University football team set a Quick Lane Bowl/Gleaners Community Food Bank record during the second day of bowl festivities, Dec. 24. The Eagles packed 29,250 pounds of potatoes, which will help make 23,400 meals, to help families in need around the Metro Detroit Area. The previous record was held by the Minnesota Gophers with 23,765 pounds in 2018.

"Today, we are giving back. It's probably one of the best feelings to ever happen," sophomore wide receiver Jairus Grissom (Detroit, Mich.-River Rouge) stated about his time at Gleaners. "It's good. God always says it's better to give than receive…it does something to my heart. Not just me, but my whole team."

Eastern's Christmas Eve is again jam-packed with activities where the Eagles held an early 8 a.m. practice at Ford Field before heading to Gleaners.

Since 2014, the participating institutions in the bowl have packaged more than 150,000 pounds of food and fed over 30,000 families during their time at Gleaners

Following the morning activities, the team will enjoy dinner and a few games of fowling at the Fowling Warehouse in Hamtramck, Mich. this evening.
