The meet will wrap up the fall 2019 home schedule
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving team completes the home portion of its fall schedule Saturday, Nov. 9, as it hosts Oakland University and Florida Gulf Coast University at 1 p.m. at Jones Natatorium.
The Eagles will take a break from competing against Mid-American Conference opponents after defeating Miami, 152-148, Oct. 26, and Ball State, 167-133, Nov. 2. Last weekend at Ball State, Eastern Michigan tallied 11 wins while setting two pool records to capture the win.
Senior Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Pointe South), junior Elli Machado (Reading, Pa.-Exeter Township), junior Ali Staver (Bettendorf, Iowa-Pleasant Valley) and senior Amelia Armstrong-Grant (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Saline) set a pool record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:50.60.
Casey Gavigan's (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) time of 56.37 in the 100 backstroke earned the senior her second title in that event in the same number of weeks, along with setting a Lewellen Aquatic Center record. In addition, freshman Savanna Mouat (Tecumseh, Ontario-All Saints) took the title in the 1,000 freestyle at the past two meets, most recently with a time of 10:34.23.
EMU also completed its third event podium sweep in two weeks, with the trio of junior Alyssa Shugarman (Oswego, Ill.-Oswego), junior Abby Rapien (Cincinnati, Ohio-Taylor), and Gavigan claiming first, second, and third in the 500 freestyle. They finished with marks of 5:08.97, 5:11.87, and 5:14.37, respectively.
