EMU will see competitors from the MAC, Big 10, and Canada
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team returns to action as it takes part in the Wolverine Invitational Saturday, Jan. 12, at the U-M Indoor Track on the campus of University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. The event features international and collegiate competitors including Mid-American Conference foes Bowling Green State University, University at Buffalo, University of Toledo, and Kent State University, in-state foes Michigan and Michigan State University, and runners from Canadian universities Guelph University and Western University (Ontario).
The Eagles look to continue their early successes after a strong performance to open the season at the GVSU Holiday Open, Dec. 7, 2018. EMU was led by senior Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind.-Zionsville Community), junior Micah Johnston (Toledo, Ohio-Toledo Christian), and freshman Alysse Wade (Mansfield, Ohio-St. Peters), who each earned top finishes in the 5000m, 400m, and 60H events, respectively. Meyers' time of 16:15.04 in the 5000m was eight seconds faster than any other competitor, while Johnston earned a first-place finish in the 400m with a time of 55.62. In her Green and White debut, Wade bested the field of competition, earning the 60-meter hurdles title with a time of 8.65. Additionally, sophomore Kadian Clarke's (Kingston, Jamaica-Immaculate Conception) 17.66m weight throw at the open marked the second-furthest throw in program history.
At last year's event, two Eagles came away with top finishes, as then-junior Jessica Harris (Slidell, La.-Slidell) took first place in the 60-meter dash, while former Eagle Ayanna O'Neal won the 60H by posting a career-best performance of 8.66.
The invitational is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. For more information regarding the invitational and live results, click here.
