Boersen is the fifth member of EMU's talented 2018-19 signing class

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University Head Rowing Coach Kemp Savage announced the signing of Emma Boersen (West Olive, Mich.-Grand Haven) to his 2018-19 signing class, Wednesday, Jan. 30. Boersen joins Kaia Knox (Carmel, Indiana-Carmel), Alexis Kettler (Trenton, Mich.-Trenton), Lena McCaslin (Hendersonville, Tenn.-Pope John Paul II), and Claire McCurley (Harrison, Ohio-William Henry Harrison) as the newest additions to the Green and White for the 2019-20 season.

"We are incredibly excited about Emma joining the team," noted Savage. "She has been a great leader for a new team in Spring Lake and with her family's close ties to rowing, she will be a great step in their legacy."

Boersen will join the Eagles as a freshman after completion of her early college program, where she is dual enrolled at both Grand Haven High School and Muskegon Community College. In the spring, Boersen will graduate from both Grand Haven and Muskegon, earning her high school diploma along with her associate's in science and arts degree. While in high school, the West Olive, Mich. native earned a varsity letter in softball for the Grand Haven Buccaneers, while earning her rowing experiences from her time as a part of the Spring Lake Crew Club, a co-op team for the Spring Lake and Grand Haven high school students. In her time with Spring Lake, Boersen recorded the club's fastest 2000m rowing time and also acted as a team captain and an assistant coach.

When asked why she signed with Eastern, Boersen noted the academic and athletic fit for her future goals. "I chose Eastern Michigan University because it is the perfect fit for me," Boersen said. "I not only have the opportunity to row again, but they also have the academic program that I am interested in."

The Eagles head back to the water to start its 2019 schedule with a scrimmage against the University of Alabama, Saturday, March 2, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. To keep up to date with all things EMU Rowing, follow the Eagles on twitter @emurowing or visit EMUEagles.com/rowing.
