Eagles set to host home meet for the first time since 2016
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team continues its indoor season Saturday, Jan. 26 as host of the Can-Am International. The meet marks the first time in almost two years that the Eagles have hosted a meet on their home turf of Bowen Field House.
The event includes competitors from 11 American and Canadian universities including the University of Detroit Mercy, Oakland University, University of Michigan, and Grand Valley State University as well as the University of Windsor, University of Western Ontario, University of Waterloo, York University, and McGill University from Canada. Mid-American Conference foes Bowling Green State University, the University at Buffalo, and Central Michigan University will also be in attendance.
EMU most recently competed in the Doug Hansen Open Jan. 18, claiming four event titles and recording 26 career-best performances. Sophomore Kadian Clarke (Kingston, Jamacia-Immaculate Conception) set the program record with an 18.21m mark in the weight throw, while also earning the event's top mark. Junior Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio-West Geuaga) and sophomore Michaela Nelms (Rocky Mount, N.C.-Nash Central) saw success on the track, with Mason's time of 7.56 in the 60m and Nelms' time of 24.52 in the 200m both good for top finishes. Additionally, redshirt senior captain Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) cleared 5.85m in the long jump to top the podium.
In conjunction with the meet, Eastern Michigan's track and field programs are hosting a Back to Bowen alumni gathering. The event, which is free for EMU track and field alumni, is aimed at bringing former EMU student athletes back to their stomping grounds during the lone home meet of the season.
The meet is scheduled to begin with field events taking place at 9 a.m. followed by running events at 1 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 and parking outside the Field House is $10, to be paid in cash only. The live results link will be available on the women's track and field schedule page at EMUEagles.com.
