The award recognizes the best football scholar-athlete in the nation

IRVING, Texas (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University senior defensive end Jeremiah Harris (Lambertville, Mich.- Bedford Senior) has been named a semifinalist for the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Candidates for the prestigious award are nominated by their school and must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, showing strong leadership ability and citizenship on and off of the gridiron. Nominees for the Campbell Trophy must have at least a 3.2 grade point average and show outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor.

The Lambertville, Mich. native is a recognized leader for the Eagles, as a two-time captain, presented the Torchbearer Leader and Committed to Excellence team awards in 2017. Harris has continued his career successes on the field this season, already recording nine tackles, including a quarterback hurry and one tackle-for-loss. A leader on and off the field, the senior is a huge part of what is currently the nation's second-best redzone defense, holding opponents to score only nine times on 16 attempts. Eastern has allowed less than 175 yards in the second half of its past three matchups, giving up the 10th-fewest second half points nationwide.

In honor of the 60th year of its National Scholar-Athlete awards, the National Football Foundation will name 12-14 finalists on Oct. 31, each earning an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 61st Annual NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4, where one finalist will be named the winner of the Campbell Trophy, increasing his postgraduate scholarship amount to $25,000.
