Each week two Eagles will be honored for their success on the field
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Each week, the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics names the EMUCU's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic media relations department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are soccer athlete, Kristin Nason, and football athlete, Mike Glass III.
Kristin Nason
Sport: Soccer
Position: Midfield/Forward
Year: Redshirt junior
Major: Sport management
Week's Achievements: Kristin Nason (Brooklin, Ontario-Donald A. Wilson) paced the offensive attack for Eastern Michigan in its opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play. Nason finished the week with three goals, for a total of six points, and became the first Eagle to join the 30-point club since 2014. The Brooklin, Ontario native scored twice in EMU's MAC-opening win over preseason favorite Kent State, Sept. 21, the first Eagle to find the back of the net twice in a game since 2016. It was also Nason's third two-goal effort.
For the season, Nason now ranks top on the team in goals. Additionally, she sits tied for the lead in goals in MAC play with three, while ranking fourth overall with five.
Mike Glass III
Sport: Football
Position: Quarterback
Year: Redshirt junior
Major: Communications
Week's Achievements: Quarterback Mike Glass III (St. Louis, Mo.-Hazelwood Central (Southwestern College)) once again came off the bench to spark the EMU offense at San Diego State, Sept. 22. He finished the contest 9-for-16 throwing with 153 yards and a score. Glass III also used his legs to pick up 29 yards on eight carries, including a touchdown run before the half to pull EMU within a score at 17-10.
Glass III orchestrated a 12 play, 79 yard drive with 3:18 left in the game to give EMU a 20-17 edge. However, SDSU responded with a 50-yard field goal to force overtime and added another field goal to win the contest in the extra period.
In his last two games, Glass III is 26-of-43 for 437 yards and three scores via the air to go along two touchdowns and 98 yards with his legs. In total, Glass III has accounted for 63.3 percent of the Eagles' total offense during the two game stretch.
