Celone's top-five finish led the Eagles to their first team title in more than eight years

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University sophomore golfer Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St. Joseph's) was named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week, Sept. 20, after his outstanding performance at the EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate, Sept. 15-16.

The league office's announcement marks the first weekly honor of Celone's career, and the first for an Eagle since Tyler Lewis was tabbed the MAC's Co-Golfer of the Week, March 2, 2018.

After holding a share of the lead after day one, Celone recorded his second career top-five finish with a four-under 206 (68-69-69). The Long Sault, Ontario native posted a one-under 69 to close out his weekend and match his entire total of rounds at par-or-better from last season.

As a team, Eastern Michigan captured its first tournament title in over eight years Sunday, Sept. 16, with a first-place finish at the EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate. EMU led from wire-to-wire in the victory that saw three Eagles finish inside the top-10.

Celone and the Eagles return to action at the Windon Memorial in Skokie, Ill. Sunday-Monday, Sept. 23-24.
