McNeill's Goal the Difference as EMU Blanks Oakland, 1-0

Mabel Dunn and Kaylin Williams combined for the Eagles first shutout of the season
ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University soccer team used an early goal to record its first shutout of the season with a 1-0 blanking of Oakland University Sunday, Sept. 2. It was EMU's (3-3-0) first shutout since Oct. 22, 2017.
Redshirt sophomore Mabel Dunn (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) made the first start of her career in goal. Dunn finished the game with one save in 45 minutes of play, while senior Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) closed out the match in goal with three stops as the duo combined for the shutout.
Winning the ball in the midfield, sophomore Madeline Olson (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) led redshirt sophomore Sabrina McNeill (Whitby, Ontario-Henry Street) on a run through the left side of the box. Taking a touch, McNeill blasted a shot inside the far post to give the Eagles a 1-nil lead four minutes in.
Eastern Michigan weathered a push from Oakland in the closing minutes of the first half, and then against in the final period, to claim the 1-0 victory. The win was EMU's first on the road since beating Illinois-Chicago, Aug. 20, 2017.
The Eagles host the Flames of the University of Illinois-Chicago next weekend, Sept. 9. EMU's final home non-conference bout is slated for 1 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
