Tyler Wiegers earned the weekly MAC honor for the first time in his career
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University graduate transfer Tyler Wiegers (Lake Orion, Mich.- Detroit Country Day (Iowa)) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced, Sept. 10. Wiegers joins teammate Chad Ryland as the MAC's week two player of the week honorees.
Wiegers led the Eagles' offensive attack, completing 20-for-28 passes for 312 yards and a touchdown to lead EMU to a thrilling 20-19 win at Purdue University, Sept. 8. His 312-yard performance was the most passing yards by an Eagle since Brogan Roback threw for 328 yards in the 2016 Bahamas Bowl.
The Lake Orion, Mich. native tossed a career-long 75-yard touchdown pass to Mathew Sexton, the longest passing play by the Eagles since 2016. Additionally, his 75-yard toss is only the third reception of 75-or-more yards since 2010 for Eastern Michigan.
The Eagles' three-game road stint continues with a trip to the Empire State as they open up their 2018 #MACtion with a Saturday night game at Buffalo. The game is set to kickoff at 6 p.m., broadcasted on ESPN+ and WEMU 89.1 FM for fans in Ypsilanti.

With the victory at Purdue, Eastern Michigan has beaten a Big Ten Conference opponent in back-to-back seasons as last year's win came in a 16-13 victory at Rutgers. Additionally, EMU's win gave the MAC its 13th consecutive season with a win over a 'Power Five' school.
