YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Two days after lifting the Eastern Michigan University football team to a 20-19 walk-off win over Purdue University for the program's second-ever win against a 'Power Five' opponent, freshman kicker Chad Ryland (Lebanon, Pa.-Cedar Crest) was tabbed the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced, Sept. 10. Ryland joins teammate Tyler Wiegers as the MAC's week two player of the week honorees.
Ryland drilled a 24-yard field goal as time expired to derail the Boilermakers and give Eastern Michigan its first walk-off win since 1994. For the game, Ryland converted two field goals and pair of PATs. The Lebanon, Pa. native is now 3-for-3 in field goals this season and is a perfect 8-for-8 on PATs.
The Eagles' three-game road stint continues with a trip to the Empire State as they open up their 2018 #MACtion with a Saturday night game at Buffalo. The game is set to kickoff at 6 p.m., broadcasted on ESPN+ and WEMU 89.1 FM for fans in Ypsilanti.

With the victory at Purdue, Eastern Michigan has beaten a Big Ten Conference opponent in back-to-back seasons as last year's win came in a 16-13 victory at Rutgers. Additionally, EMU's win gave the MAC its 13th consecutive season with a win over a 'Power Five' school. Ryland's game-winning kick pushed Eastern to 2-0 on the season, marking just the third time in the past 20 years the Eagles have won their first two games to start the year.📹 | Listen to @ShepMatt call of Ryland's [@c_ryland9] game-winning field goal as EMU beats Purdue, 20-19!#EMUEagles | #FocusFightFinish | @MACSports | #FlyTheFlag pic.twitter.com/uJaqXxUMfL
