Crosby earns fourth 2018 preseason honor
CHICAGO, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) — Junior Defensive End Maxx Crosby (Colleyville, Tenn.) has been named to the Ted Hendricks Award Watch List for the second consecutive season, the Ted Hendricks Foundation announced today, Aug. 13.
Crosby is one of two Mid-American Conference members named to the watch list (Sutton Smith, Northern Illinois). This is Crosby's fourth preseason honor, as the defensive end was also named to the Preseason All-MAC First Team by Athlon Sports, the Nagurski Trophy Watch List and Bednarik Award Watch List earlier this preseason.
Named Eastern Michigan University's 2017 Team MVP, John E. Borowiec Most Valuable Defensive Player, and Harold E. Sponberg Down Lineman Award, Crosby led Eastern's defensive effort in 2017. The then-red shirt-sophomore started in all 12 of Eastern's games and led the Eagles with 11 sacks, including back-to-back multi-sack games against both Central Michigan (3) and Miami (OH) (3).
The Ted Hendricks award honors the top defensive end in college football each year, named after college football's first three-time first-team All-American. The final watch list will be issued in late November, with the 2018 recipient announcement planned for Dec. 12. The award winner is chosen by prominent former and current college coaches, pro-football personnel, and former players, looking at the player's on-field performance, leadership abilities, and contributions to school and community as some of the criteria used to determine the award winner. The 2016 and 2017 award winners were both selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
