YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University football team begins its quest to return to the postseason Wednesday, Aug. 1, as the players report to training camp. The team's first practice is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 2, at 9:15 a.m.
With the elimination of two-a-days in preseason practice and the lengthening of camp, EMU can don full pads for the first time on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
In keeping with tradition, the team will host its fifth annual Youth Day on Saturday, Aug. 11, starting at 11:25 a.m., on the gray turf inside "The Factory". Designed for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, the event is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Registration will be from 10:30-11 a.m. and the day will begin at the conclusion of practice at 11 a.m. Youth Day will consist of different activities taught by the players and coaches. Please RSVP to Jason Daniels at jdanie34@emich.edu
Youth Day is an event that was introduced by Head Coach Chris Creighton back in 1997 when he first arrived at Ottawa University. Its purpose is to give area children an opportunity to visit with the Eagles' student-athletes while enjoying football-related fun and games. Kids will have the opportunity to come down onto the field and experience the joy of running around in a safe, fun environment, while learning a few things about the game of football. EMU players will be interacting and encouraging their new friends throughout the event.
For updates on the team, be sure to follow #EMUFB on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
The Eagles open the 2018 season under the lights at "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium Friday, Aug. 31, versus Monmouth University. Season tickets are available for purchase at EMUEagles.com/tickets, by calling 734.487.3669 or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
